Once when I worked at a movie theater, a customer who happened to be a foreigner came up to the concession counter and requested a cup of water. I brought him his drink and told him the price was $0.25. His face contorted into a look of disgust as he quickly fished through his pockets, pulled out a quarter, threw it on the counter, and walked away with a disgusted, “Pff…Americans…”
I’m sorry, but if the complaint here is that a cup of simple, thirst-quenching water wasn’t free, I sympathize. However, it seemed to me that, rather than focusing his frustration on the company that created the policy that water costs $0.25, he was focusing his anger on the me, the greedy, American, concession counter clerk who had the audacity to make him hand me a quarter before I would give him his drink.
This message goes out to anyone who thinks America owes them a favor for being foreign. You gave up your right to complain about America when you moved to America. I didn’t come to your country and demand to see your manager because you don’t have American food, currency, or wear the same clothes. If I had, then I would be the aforementioned ignorant, stupid American but when you come to America, surround yourself with Americans, and bitch about our ignorance it essentially tells the world that you came here to make us feel bad about being born here and you’re the pretentious prick we should all aspire to be like which will never be the case. Please don’t ever speak again, you are essentially an oxygen thief.
